Chad;
Most of the Fuji PID controllers have a autotune function on them, you might want to get some junk beans or even use something like navy beans(never did like the Navy) and let it run a cycle or two to tune the thing.
this has been a while in the making, maybe mine won't take so long, have to pick up a short section of 2" OD 1/4" wall tube today and the easy part is done except for the make me pretty stuff that comes at the end.

Yeah, David, your project will hopefully be running much, much quicker!
I'll mess with the autotune- good idea with navy beans.

well it moves beans, at least the ones that I can keep in the tube.
If the included link works it will show me making a mess of trying to see if 1.5 pounds of green will flow in the monster that I have created.

peice of screen wire with a 3/16" spacing in a 1.5 inch opening.
Screen wire sits in the recess cut in the end of this peice.
and the you tube is my first go round with that little monster but I will get it to work.

view of bean side of funnel.
Pyrex tube sits on top of this peice, when I am done there will be set screws holding the peices together.

3.5 inches inside diameter by 14 inches. some type of pyrex baking tube found at thrift store a couple years ago and have helt onto it cause I knew it would make one rocking roaster 360 degree viewing
lets see if this works.
Ok how do we link to a youtube video
Guess Yourtube is one of them sites that isn't allowed or something.
gotta find a vacumn cleaner motor, or a cheap shop vac for air power, and get the heat strightened out and installed and we will be roasting, top of roaster lifts off for easy dumping and all I have to do for a cooler is turn the heat off, also I will have to make some type of cover otherwise the thing will unload on you all over the floor.

Did you say "vacuum motor"? I think there are a couple threads on that around here.

thats what they make flea markets for Scott.
I can pick one up at the flea market for less than the shipping, I could use one of the two that I have but I don't really want my coffee tasting like machine shop coolant. And I know where there is a dude that works on "rug suckers", so I may just have to run by there and see if I can get me one of them high dollar Dyson imports, for like on the cheap.
now back to more important things, how does a person post a video on here.

Most of the Dysons use a single stage Panasonic motor. Nice pressure.
The roaster-chamber base; Is that a little something you popped out of a CNC? Great funnel shape!! -Scott |

Shop-Vacs are another source for vacuum motors. I've found that the older, original units develop the most pressure. Or, buy a new unit from Graingers.
Baking tube is a good idea. I hope that the beans don't spout out of the top! |

You can see the K-type TC inbetween the two heat elements. With the hopper on (below) the TC is right under the perf.

In this quick video the two temperatures read about the same, but with beans they read different (future video). The upper temp reads much higher than the lower temp with beans loaded.

I can only think of two possibilities to explain your issue:
1. TCs aren't measuring the same (calibration or other issue)
2. Placement of the bottom TC between the air streams is causing it.
Of course, I'm not really an expert on TCs.... |

Chad,
One thing I see that can cause temperature lag problems is the mounting nut next to the sensor tip (TC at heater discharge).
If the nut is touching the TC tip metal it can create a thermal mass and take a while to respond. Does the disparity continue when leaving the temperature consant for a few minutes?
Best practice is to have a bare TC with nothing touching it.
Is the BT TC also not bare and including a mounting nut?

Can I chop this end of the TC and just twist the wires together? And will this help or hurt?
I can't take the nut off the end. It's siliconed and sandwiched between cement board layers.

I've done a twist (several and tight) without welding the end-bead and gotten what I consider accurate results but it's unorthodox I guess.
I would place a bare TC 1/16th of an inch away from the one we're talking about, blow a heat gun blast towards them and see if there really is much of a delay or bad read before making any changes. It might be fine the way it is.
