Hi all,
I'm looking for a Semi-Automatic Espresso machine and a coffee grinder for home use. I found following products from Krups:-
Krups
Electronic Pump Espresso Maker XP5280
Krups XP5280 Espresso Machine
http://espresso-m...ups-XP5280
Krups XP5280 Precise Tamp Programmable Espresso Machine
http://www.seattl...so-machine
Espresso XP5280
http://www.krups....XP5280.htm
Krups Coffee Grinder GVX2
http://www.krups....2/GVX2.htm
Could any folk on the forum shed me some light?
I have no preset budget dependable on feature and quality. Comment and suggestion would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi, Satimis. Welcom to HRO!
I'm not a fan of Krups anything. If you're looking to keep the costs somewhat low, I'd suggest Breville for your espresso
The grinder is the most critical part of your set-up. Youe can pull a pretty decent shot from just about anything with a very good grinder sitting next to it. Start here:

Good luck!
Have fun.

Hi John,
Thanks for your advice.
I'm looking for quality product.
I have a Saeco Via Veneto Cappuccino Combi
Photo: http://ubuntuone.com/0l9LwyIxAVrPxTGlobvgz4
which have been running for more than 10 years without problem until now. It is the time for me investing a new expresso machine.
Initially I have an idea purchasing a full automatic expresso machine. After having received some advice that the maintenence cost is very expensive then I turn my searching back to semi automatic expresso machine.
I can't find Baratza burr grinder nor its products here.
Coffee machines and accessories available here are:-
Philips Saeco
Delonghi
Krups
Breville
Kenwood
etc.
I prefer having a burr grinder. Any suggestion on other makers?
Any suggestion on the espresso machine made by Delonghi? Thanks
B.R.

Hi jkoll42,
I'm in Hong Kong.
I don't have a preset budget. If not taking consideration on cost of maintenence I prefer to have a full automatic expresso machine.
I suppose the total cost of a semi automatic exrpesso machine plus that of a burr grinder will be lower than a full automatic machine.
I just found "Saeco GT-1 Titan Conical Burr Grinder" on Internet.
http://www.kitche...VEB99.html
It looks bulky in design. I prefer the design of Baratza Vario Grinder

I have a Baratza Vario sitting next to my Mazzer Mini E. I must admit that the Vario is a pretty impressive grinder for the money. Have you tried contacting BellaBarista to see if they might ship to HK?

One of the most popular mid-priced setups that will produce very good espresso is the Rancillio Silvia espresso machine and their Rancillio Rocky grinder. |

If you don't mind a hand grinder, you can get the OE Pharos, the ultimate budget grinder. $250. |

I am not sure how much experience you have with coffee and coffee machines
The machines you have noted in your posts are classed as appliances
To make a recommendation we all need to know your
1] priorities and
2] experience with any past machines/equipment
3] The style of coffee you prefer
4] How many cups are you likely to make in one go
5] Is steaming milk important
Answer these questions and make a list of any Prosumer machines available in Hong Kong

BR - I think everyone here would try to keep you away form a super auto. Overall it's a compromise.
We recently had a member from Pakistan that had a rocky with bad results who switched to a La Spaziale Top grinder and had great results. You may want to contact a espresso supply company and see what they can get for you. If you are limited to the list you gave, the Breville is the best of the worst. The new Breville Double Boiler seems at least decent (although reliability for the brand is low)

Hi all,
Thanks for your suggestion.
I only consume 2 or 3 cups cuppuchino daily.
Following coffee equipment are full of the market here, Hong Kong;
Philips Saeco
Delonghi
Krups
Breville
Kenwood
etc.
It is easy for me to get them. I'm reludant to purchase coffee equipment if they don't have an agent here, caring maintenence service.
It won't be easy for me to find Baratza product here. Pls see;
Help with Getting Baratza Vario in Hong Kong
http://coffeegeek...ers/533362
Help for getting Baratza Vario in Hong Kong
http://www.home-b...17958.html
I found a coffee specialty shop here;
Coffee Machine
http://www.coffee...ine_en.htm
Grinder
http://www.coffee...der_en.htm
I'm considering;
Solis Grinder 167plus (burr grinder)
Solis Maestro Grinder Detailed Review
http://www.coffee...lismaestro
It is compact, not occupying much space. The later is very expensive here. I have been looking at "Rancilio Rocky". But it is for commercial use.
I don't find my ideal coffee machine there, a semi automatic expresso machine. Comment and suggestion are welcome. TIA
B.R.

If you want a fully auto
I would contact the Pacific Coffee Company http://www.pacifi...index.html
They have the Jura Brand
Good enough for home and commercial applications
Hope that helps

Hi KK,
Thanks for your advice and thread.
I contacted them before;
http://www.pacifi...a_line.htm
This chain coffee shop is the agent of Jura, Switzerland. I also contacted their head office.
Later I changed my target on semi automatic expresso machine because of high cost of maintence.

Have you considered a lever machine
As in a manual cylinder type machine
Not much servicing to speak of, and wonderful coffee for many years

Hi KK,
whether you referred to manual machine?
such as:-
"Espresso Machine Buying Guide - Choosing a Manual Machine

Home » Lever Coffee Machines
http://www.coffee...php?cat=63
?
No, I never tried them before.
They look like a toy, nice for decoration - "Elektra Micro Casa a Leva Spring Piston Lever". I wonder whether I can find it here? I would like purchasing a set in addition.
Elektra S1 Micro a Leva Lever Copper & Brass 2012 Ed.
http://www.coffee...amp;cat=63
It is NOT cheap.
Thanks

They are not toys
I personally own a Bezzera Strega and very happy to own one as the coffee is sublime
As mentioned on a reply post

Hi KK,
I found it here;
The BREVILLE BES900 Dual Boiler Coffe Maker

the Dual Boiler - Videos, Reviews, Specs and more...
http://www.brevil...dualboiler
the Dual Boiler - Breville

Although it is NOT nice looking, it is quite economical in price. I'll search the relevant reviews and commentary later.
Thanks

Most people would not really consider the Rocky a commercial grinder. Many people who are into espresso have true commercial grinders in their homes because the grinder is more important than the espresso machine.
Can you get anything from Mazzer? Those Solis grinders are unlikely to get you the results you want.
