Hi all! My name is Kelli. I'm a stay at home mom to two energetic & awesome little girls. I just started roasting with a hot air popper about a month ago and so far I just can't get enough :)
So far I think my favorite is ethiopian with camaroon being a close second.
A lot of great info on here~good to be among folks who share my obsession:300ccCoffee.gif:

Welcome Kelli,
I started with a popper, and have a HotTop now.

Ken~how long did you roast w/popper before moving on to the Hot Top?
Ginny~So far I've only gotten beans from SM. Got an 8 lb sampler which seemed a good place to start. My husband is a great help with taste testing. |

I think it was a year and a half. I then spent some time making a drum for a rotisserie, but then thought the rotisserie wouldn't have enough heat. I now see it would. My wife suggested the HotTop ... "Go for it".

Great to meet you Kelli! Like many others I started with a popper, and used the heatgun / breadmaker, a few diy roasters....
You said you needed another hobby, right

Great to meet you to Chad. So far I've been really happy with the results I'm getting w/popper. I'm curious what prompts folks to move on to other styles/types of roasters?
As for another hobby? I think I might be bordering on obsession :)

For me it was size of roast.
And some control. (Well, I am still hoping to find that)

Funny, now that I have the larger batch size, I want a still larger batch size.

I did the backward thing and modified a poppery II for fun after building my larger roaster. I should have built the popper first to learn more about roasting.
While my big roaster was apart I did some popper roasts and was very impressed with the results. There is nothing like a popper to see, hear and smell the whole process. |
