Jan 1st 2016 - Flowers
turtle
December has been the warmest on record since they have kept records around here, averaging just under 60 degrees for the month. Normally on Jan 1 we are mid 30's

I was sipping a cup of fresh brewed Ethiopian Yirgacheffe wet processed coffee that I roasted a few days ago (wearing a T shirt, shorts and flip flops) when I noticed flowers outside. NO WAY.....

I grabbed my camera and one of my Camellias was in FULL bloom (90% + buds opened). I found a few other shrubs blooming too, though not as full as that one Camellia. We are about as far north as Camellias will grow without freezing. I have had mine freeze to the ground a few times over the years so to see them in full bloom instead of freeze distress is something I may never see again

I had to snap some pics to share......

Azaleas normally blooms in April and May, Not January

Wow! It has been a crazy month for high temps here too (extreme northern Ohio), and I am sure we will have no hydrangea blooms this season. Our hydrangea was fat with buds the other day, I haven't covered it to protect from frost, so it will loose all it's buds I'm sure....

I can't believe that picture of your camellia! Wonder if it will just keep blooming straight thru???

East PA here - we have dandelions in the yard and there are cherry blossoms around as well. Finally turning a bit colder but spring should be interesting. My hope is that this false spring killed all the cucumber beetles!
