Just wanted to let you all know that as of June 1, 2017 Hottop USA has decided that they will no longer be my client in terms of customer service. The end seems amicable enough, and just wanted to let you all know that if you contact Hottop Customer Service I will no longer be the contact person there.

Thanks Randy for your help in the past with HotTop issues here. I hope you will continue to join us here to discuss coffee and roasting.

I am not going anywhere, at least for a while.. I have been active on coffee forums in general, starting back with alt.coffee before it was destroyed, since late 2000. Just as I said to my wife this morning, as we are about to celebrate our 46th wedding anniversary, "You aren't going to get rid of me that easily!"

I was just recently wondering what happened to alt.coffee after all these years. Still got the t-shirt. |

You have been a great and well informed evangelist of the HotTop. I think they will find it 'Sad to see you go."

It started with one particular spammer who was selling PID kits and upgrades. He threatened a number of people to their faces as well as offline, and at one point there was a small group of folks who wanted to have a very serious, face-to-face discussion with him. He used numerous personna on alt.coffee, and that was the beginning of the end. I had one confrontation with him and a couple more online to the point that I filed a complaint against him with the SCAA. Later I heard he was actually an authorized repair person with a USA grinder company, and he was modifying machines by adding PIDs which were being sold as new by a highly respected espresso machine reseller, all of which which saddened me. With the advent of the ignorant masses all owning computers, the newsgroups in general, and particularly the unmoderated forums which depended on common courtesy and decency, ended up in the hands of spammers, trolls, and the distributors of pornography. I have no problem with the later, just not with my coffee.. ![]() So the most active and decent folks there migrated to coffeegeek and the real coffee geeks went to homebarista.com, a here on HR and also to the coffee areas on reddit. I frequent all of those on a daily basis still. |

What a loss for Hottop! I'm glad to hear you'll be staying with us for the long haul and continue to support all of our Hottop fans! ![]() Allen 1/2 lb and 1 lb drum, Siemens Sirocco fluidbed, presspot, chemex, cajun biggin brewer from the backwoods of Louisiana

I had issues like that on other nntp newsgroups. there is a way to remove other people's posts without nntp admin access. It is not documented and those that know are reluctant to share. I was able to keep a very active (and heavily trolled) web development nntp news server rather civil back around the turn of the millennium... Once the trolls realize that their posts are disappearing and they can't seem to fire anyone up, it is not long before they themselves disappear to worry other nntp groups. .
