As some of you know, I have been pondering changes to my drum roaster that would allow me to automate my roasts, following a background profile using Artisan softwares internal PID control. Ive seen it done here on YouTube: https://youtu.be/... It seems like all I would need to do is replace my Phidget 1048 with the Vint Hub, hook up the temp sensors and add the Phidget Solenoid to control my gas flow. Yes, it will turn the burner on and off but I know that method will work since I use an on off PID on my control panel for holding the preheat temperature. Here is my current input hub, the Phidget 1048: https://www.phidg...rodid=1028 Here is what would be my new input/output Vint Hub: https://www.phidg...rodid=1202 Here is the solenoid I'd use to control my 120v gas solenoid: https://www.phidg...rodid=1142 Im a bit unsure of myself because I dont see this being done using Phidget stuff as that niche seems to be dominated by TC4 and Arduino, etc. Im also not savvy with TC4, Arduino, coding, etc. Please give your thoughts and suggestions. Thanks in advance yall! Edited by oldgrumpus on 03/23/2022 11:24 AM Clever Coffee Dripper

I don't think you should replace the actual 1048, but connect them together... the hub don't seem to measure anything alone, by itself... Best would be to ask Frans about his setup and all details, he is very responsive. From the video I don't see the evidence of an automation/intelligence controlling the roast based on some process feedback. Seems to be rather events playback of a former roast. There is nothing in that video that can't be done by a custom TC4 setup, even alone, without Artisan. maybe this is the reason of "domination" :) PS: the background profile left right tango, during the roast, sounds a bit as a cheat ![]() Later Edit: please check the video again, to see the answer to my question. Is close to what I guessed. So finally he ended with an external Fuji controller. Please also notice that Frans machine is not a drum like the others, it behaves a lot different than either solid or radiant typical drum roasters, with a very specific power management. I am under the impression that he is using a previous Artisan roast profile as a background for the automation. On his particular roaster, (maybe I'm mistaken...) I think it comes with a Fuji controller. Artisan then would be using the Fuji as a solenoid to switch his power on and off? Maybe? The roaster is electrically heated if that makes any difference. I'll do what you are asking and watch again to see if I'm seeing what you're seeing and we'll again soon. Clever Coffee Dripper
