Hi. New here, but not new to home roasting. Roast my own beans from time to time with a Poppery II. I generally use a pour-over or an Aeropress. Enjoying a nice medium roast Guatemalan right now. Looking forward to learning more about this, and the camaraderie that a roasting forum will provide. Thanks for having me. |

Hi Mountainman and huge welcome to HRO! Glad to have you on board. I've tasted some amazing off the chart great coffee from a popper and you're in great company here especially with some of our more recent members who are blazing the trail with their continuing popper mods. Post often and as one of our founding members often said, have fun!!! ![]() 1/2 lb and 1 lb drum, Siemens Sirocco fluidbed, presspot, chemex, cajun biggin brewer from the backwoods of Louisiana

Thanks! I used to do some mods with my Poppery IIs (the main one being the installation of a Cooper 550° thermometer via a sleeve and high temp ATV through the lid), But have recently settled into just listening for first crack, and then waiting for the right color to develop after first crack has cleared. Seems to be working pretty well, as I prefer medium roasts.

Welcome Mountainman, hope you find what you are looking for, lots of threads to check out. I might be one of those tinkerers that Alenb is talking about. I just connected my last modified popper to Artisan and recorded about 10 roasts. Will be trying to fully automate when next round of parts arrive. For me the changes and testing of the roaster has been almost as fun as the roasts themselves. |

Yes, for us home roasters, it is more than just about getting good beans in our cup. It’s a hobby that can be steeped in traditions, and can be as simple or as time-consuming as one wants it to be. There is nothing quite as satisfying as enjoying a really good cup knowing that you have roasted it yourself.

Quote Actually, you are definitely one of the tinkerers I was thinking of. I'm really enjoying reading your posts on your popper as well as the others who have recently posted on their popper mods. Keep the updates coming as there are a lot of people from around the world who are reading it and gain a lot of roasting and roaster modding wisdom from it. 1/2 lb and 1 lb drum, Siemens Sirocco fluidbed, presspot, chemex, cajun biggin brewer from the backwoods of Louisiana
