Just picked up a mystery roaster yesterday
DCapps
Hello all, we have decided to jump into the world of coffee roasting. I picked up a roaster yesterday, I probably should have done better research, but I think the excitement getting it I just went with it. It has a label on it that says it is a Sevval model EB5. Made in Turkey. Sevval looks like they specialize more in very large capacity roasters, but I do see an EB5 model on their website, it just doesn't look a whole lot like the one I bought. Secondly I looked over the fact that it is a 3 phase machine, not a huge issue as i can get a phase converter to run it. But overall any opinions or anyone know if what I have looks like a true Sevval roaster? or maybe its a knock off? I paid 6500.00 for it, and it looks pretty well built, the nameplate looks a bit suspect and cheap, almost like printed on a piece of paper and applied with some adhesive. Seems like a machine build would warrant a metal nameplate or something more than a paper printed label.

Welcome! Can't you find back its origin with the serial no on the label? What are you plans, roast as a hobby and sell locally or a much bigger plan.
Never delay what you can do today....

That is the thing, I have not been able to find any info on this model, aside from the sevvalusa website, no youtube videos, no manuals, no pictures of the same one, etc. The only pictures that come up when i search the make/model are the pictures from when it was listed on ebay and facebook. The seller is in the business of selling commercial kitchen equipment, so they did not use this thing at all, and from the looks of it it wasn't heavily used by anyone. Our plans are to open a coffee shop/cafe and roast our own beans. but have to learn the roasting process to begin with. We may start the shop using some locally sourced pre roasted whole beans, unless I can learn this roaster fairly quickly and be able to produce some good product.

That is actually the one I bought. He must have not cancelled the ebay listing, I just picked it up yesterday afternoon.

I did send them an email Yesterday in the same time I made this post. Surprisingly after 9pm last night (Sunday) I received an email from one of their reps. He said yes that is one of their older machines, and said he would come out to go over it with me, we are 33 miles from their VA Beach location in Suffolk, VA. Sounds like some pretty great customer service! I now need to find a phase converter to be able to supply it with the power it needs to operate.

Stay tuned, I will report back with updates.

She is cleaning up very nicely, I get the feeling this thing may have been used a handful of times if that. It was dusty but hardly any chaff debris in it. A little under the cooling tray, but that is it. The temp probe is bright and shiny clean, which I would expect it to have some sign of heat or brown from the beans. I have to get some ducting to connect from the blower to the chaff collector.
